Ghost Signs of Louisville

Chris Stegner's photo gallery, which I just stumbled across online, contains a goodly collection of Louisville "ghost signs". Lovely stuff, although we quibble in principle with his widely inclusive usage of the term - old neon signs do not qualify, nor do contemporary signs like that for Petrus, nor does the insignia on the world's largest baseball bat.

The majority of these signs are from around Portland. I live literally blocks from these places and they are still in use. The auto shop sign is from Lannings auto garage, an uncle of mine owned it and now his son does. It is still very much a business though not hardly a 'ghost' sign.

I have never heard the term, "ghost signs" before, but it makes sense. We have some in the town where I live and they have always interested me.
