Inflatable Pumpkin

Caufield's Novelty Shop in Louisville has always been good for eye-catching gimmicks, such as their hearse and their giant bat. Now they've put a giant inflatable jack-o-lantern on their roof, joining UnK's hallowed ranks of blow-up goodies such as the Inflatable Cone and the Inflatable Ape.

Inflatable Duck

This giant inflatable duck on Electron Drive in Jeffersontown's Bluegrass Industrial Park may not be as scary as the Inflatable Ape or as surreal as the Inflatable Cone, but it sure is yellow.

Normally, inflatable promotional gee-gaws don't impress me. I loathe the inflatable snowmen, santas, and reindeer that clog up people's yards at Christmas time, and those air-powered humanoid figures that flail around wildly in front of auto shops, BBQ joints and car washes really give me the heeby-jeebies.

But something about this giant inflatable gorilla struck a resonant chord with me. I don't know why. It certainly helps that he's big as a house.

The soiree is just down the street from me. It's the Hillbilly Outfield Derby Party, raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Inflatable Cone

This portable ice cream stand sets up for business every year at the Kentucky State Fair. The cone part is a metal building with an inflated ice cream balloon that twists in the wind.
