Bigfoot Photographed in Fairdale?

Kenny Mahoney of Fairdale, KY, has inadvertently snapped a mysterious photograph that some people believe is a Bigfoot-type cryptid.

Mahoney operates a motion-detecting hunting camera, which usually picks up mundane critters such as deer, rabbits and possums. But recently his camera took a strange image that appears to be a gorilla, or something like one.

Hate to be a spoilsport, but the longer I stare at the image, the more it seems to me that the two blurry blobs that look like arms are actually large birds, and the blurry blob that appears to be its head and torso is just the general background of the dark woods. I'd like to see what other photos without the alleged Bigfoot, taken in this exact same spot, look like.

On the other hand, if there was a place where a Kentucky Bigfoot could thrive, it would indeed be near Fairdale, which is a community just a couple miles East of Penile. Check a map, and you'll see that inside the triangle formed by Fairdale, Kosmosdale, and Shepherdsville, there's a vast expanse of wilderness with very little civilization going on.


On the other hand, the Fairdale Bigfoot has a Facebook and a Twitter, so he must be real, right?

And still another cemetery desecration... according to the May 26 edition of the Courier-Journal:

A Mount Washington grandmother and grandson are accused of trying to sell bronze vases from a cemetery for scrap.

Geraline Hilbert, 63, and Joshua Taggart, 21, were arrested Saturday, May 23, and each face 22 counts of violating graves and one count of theft by unlawful taking over $300, Mount Washington Police Detective Buddy Stump said.

They were taken to the Bullitt County Detention Center, where Hilbert posted a $4,000 bond. Taggart was still being held on a $4,000 bond on Tuesday.

Stump said police received a call from a staff member at Highland Memorial Gardens, 279 Landis Lane, about 8 a.m. Saturday saying someone was stealing vases that had been set next to headstones.

Family members pay $598 for each vase and often fill them with flowers on Memorial Day weekend, Stump said.

After getting a description of the suspects and the van they were using, police called Amen Auto Parts in Shepherdsville, which is the closest business that buys scrap metal.

Hilbert and Taggart were arrested there. The vases have been returned to the graves, Stump said.

I do hope the authorities investigate whether other cemeteries have been targeted by these two. Bronze vases have similarly been stolen from other places, like Louisville Cemetery on Poplar Level in Schnitzelburg, and Eastern Cemetery on Bardstown Road (where the above image was taken).

While researching the Weird Kentucky book, I tried to interview some locals about whether the area was haunted by the wandering spirits of all these sad dead pets. All affirmed that they indeed believed it to be, but nobody wanted to go on the record. As one guy succintly put it, "Something about a dog ghost scares me ten times more'n a person".
